Tis the Season of Football Coaching Vacancies
Jan 6th, 2009 by Coach DeLorm
So this week has seen many changes in the American football world. The BCS bowl season is almost to the end and the NFL is Playoffs are in full swing. On the coaching front Mike Shanahan got canned by the Denver Broncos for not wining the big games after No. 7 retired. He is a great coach, but again he has fallen into the trap of managing to much on and off the field. When he was just the head football coach and not vice president of football operations as well, his teams flourished. Same case in Mike Holmgren. There seems to be a growing number of coaches that want all the power, but seem to not realize that you are just one person and at that high a level of football need to focus all their efforts on coaching. I mean that is what got them there in the first place not managing football operations.
This time of year also brings about the many out of work football coaches looking to find their next break in the football coaching world. I have heard stories of unemployed football coaches going to the NCAA and NFL meetings with resume in hand in order to win a coaching job for next year. Some even wait in hotel lobbies and traffic stoplights to pass out resumes to unexpecting front office personnel and football coaches. I geuss you do what you have to get your foot in the door. I have always been a believer of letting your record and players performance speak for you rather then trying to whoring yourself out on the corner.
Well Good Luck to all the coaches out there looking for a job at whatever level of football that might be and make sure to use our jobs page and links to help in the job hunting.
