This whole long hair controversy started last year when Chiefs running back superstar Larry Johnson tackled Pittsburgh Steelers safety Pro Bowler Troy Polamalu (who has probably the most recognizeable hair in the NFL) by yanking on his hair and pulling him out of bounds.

Although JaMarcus Russell didn’t get a lot of playing time last season, you have to think that the Oakland Raiders are a lot better than they were with an offensive threat like Russell taking the snaps. Last season, it was painfully obvious that the Raiders really had no chance of getting to the post season even with the AFC West being as bad as it was, but with the little time that their first pick got in on the action, you could tell times were a changing for fans of the Silver & Black.

Today that fun-squeezing seemed to continue when I heard that the league’s teams will be voting on a ban of player’s hair flowing out of their helmets because “the hair could cover…

A lot of attention has been paid to the dangers of concussions in football since the death of former NFL defensive back Andre Waters and the release of a report that indicated concussions were tied to depression in ex-NFL players. Those incidents have led the NFL to undertake several new initiatives and, across the nation, football programs from the high-school to professional levels are taking a more proactive approach to preventing head injuries. A former Harvard quarterback and his innovative company are also contributing to the cause with their newest invention – the X1 football helmet.
